Developing industrial and infrastructure projects in isolated areas of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) entails confronting numerous construction challenges. Among these are a lack of local infrastructure, short timeframes, high logistics costs, and strict requirements for safety and compliance. These difficulties become even more intense when office facilities, accommodation for workers, laboratories, and canteens must be ready for operation immediately upon the workers' arrival on site.

In response to such requirements, ZN House is currently working on a foldable container buildings DRC project. The project was kicked off in September 2025, and it is expected to be finalized by June 2026. By utilizing advanced foldable container technology, the endeavour seeks to offer quick installation, easy relocation, and weather-resistant performance in a hot and rainy environment.

Because of the remoteness and the infrastructure limitations of the site, it would have been impossible for traditional construction methods to comply with the very tight 15-day delivery cycle for the initial setup (while the "full-scale deployment" spans nine months for client-side ancillary works). Therefore, it was determined that foldable container technology would be the most effective solution. The modular design makes it possible for the units to be delivered from the factory fully finished and only unfolded on-site with a minimum of labour, thus mitigating the risks associated with delays and bad weather.
ZN House foldable container houses are pre-fabricated modular units designed for transportation and quick unfolding at the site. Each unit is delivered in a compact folded state, and upon opening, it turns into a complete building with perfectly folded utilities and structure.

The prefabricated laboratory building in this project is mainly aimed at giving technicians a stable, controlled, and professional environment to work in. ZN House's foldable container system was chosen to build the laboratory unit. It not only provides ample structural strength but is functionally very simple. The hot and rainy climate of the DRC is a major factor. ZN House puts rock wool sandwich panels to use for thermal insulation as well as fire resistance, which in turn decreases the dependence on air-conditioning systems. The entirely welded roof and sealed walls increase water resistance, thus guaranteeing that the indoor areas stay comfortable and the durability is maintained throughout the project duration.
